Jalan TAR Escapade...

Today was our "Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman Day". One of the TWO days in a year that we go to that area. We normally would avoid going there UNLESS it is absolutely necessary. The absolutely necessary days would be, first - the day we have to SEND the kain to buat Baju Melayu for Ayah and Hilman to Om*r Ali in Wisma Yakin, and second - the day we have to COLLECT the Baju Melayu :)

The girls decided not to follow us this time, so it was only Ayah, Hilman and myself. Normally, we would just park the car at Taman Jaya and take the LRT to Masjid Jamek. But, with the H1N1 situation getting worse, we decided to avoid public transport, and took my Kembara instead. My cute car "is easier to park", Ayah said. You all know lah how parking and traffic in that area can be - sheer madness, kan? Anyway, we decided to park at SOGO today. Itu pun illegal after going round and round for ages looking for a parking spot.

Hilman and I wore our surgical masks throughout the day, and it was good to see that there were quite a number of shoppers doing the same, too. If only everybody would invest in surgical masks and start wearing them in public places. Who knows, this could be our little contribution in actually helping contain H1N1, kan? There were a few ladies who were selling surgical masks in front of SOGO, but, I didn't really notice how much they were selling them for. I just hope they have not hiked the price too much sampai put off people from buying and using them.

Anyway, back to the main plot (Hehehehe!) - if Ayah had his ways, he wouldn't want to buat his Baju Melayu for Raya at all. But, of course, I would always use Hilman as an excuse. My Little Man needs to have his Baju Melayu specially-tailored for him because he would not fit in the ready-made ones. The problem would always be his waist :) So, alang-alang buat Hilman's baju, might as well make Ayah's baju, too, right? Furthermore, this Big Ma'am insists that we have a theme for every Raya. The theme for this year is turquoise blue, and the last time I checked Ayah's wardrobe, nope, no turquoise Baju Melayu in there. So, no escape for Ayah this year ;)

Anyway, the turquoise theme is just for first day Raya. For the rest of the bajus, they are all charcha marba as Hanna and Hasya both have their own preferences, and their tastes are totally different from each other. I no longer can opt for kerja senang and make baju boria for them this year. So, shopping for the girls can sometimes make "my blood go upstairs". But, syukur alhamdulillah, the kain for us girls had been sent to the tailor last Sunday (finally!). Two each for Hanna and Hasya, and just one for me. Nasib baik jugak Kh*ti*ah still accepted tempahan last week.

We also managed to get a sampin for Hilman which would match both his Baju Melayu nicely today. He can no longer wear the ready made sampin for kids now. We also had to get him a new Songkok as the one we bought for him last year no longer fits him. He HAS definitely grown since last Raya :) He also insisted on getting 2 different sets of butang Baju Melayu according to the colours of his Baju Raya. Mengalahkan Normal Norell, you... ;) And alang-alang we were in Jalan TAR today, we decided to also go to Gulati's, and we ended up buying a kain each lagi for us girls (macam lah totally unexpected, kan?! Hahaha!)

We decided to have lunch at Coliseum. It was amazing to see the place. It was as if time stood still for them all these years. Same old waiters, same old captain, same old airconds, same unpainted walls, same tables and chairs. Ayah had his wajib Sizzling T-bone Steak, Hilman had his Sizzling Rib-eye Steak, while I had my usual Sizzling Lamb Chop. We also tapau-ed some Fried Chicken Wings for the girls. All so heavenly... Yummeh!

After lunch we slowly walked back to SOGO - kononnya nak terus get the car and balik lah kan? But, mana lah boleh kan when the SALES signs were everywhere, makcik oiii!!! Up to 70% discounts merata-rata. And we ended up buying a few Sa*il*e Ro* shirts for Ayah. Memang murah giler... Yang tak seronoknya, Ayah discovered that Size L2 is too big for him now, and his size is now L1! I think, for the past couple of years, Ayah has gone down 3 sizes! Ahaakkksss! I feel so tercabar and tergugat, okay?! Mana achiiiii!!! How come I'm still wearing the same size I've been wearing for the past 5 years?!! I definitely have to do something about my weight...Mesti! Mesti!

We left SOGO just before 5:00p.m, and reached home about 5:30p.m. I showed Hanna and Hasya the kain we bought for them, and both of them teramatlah sukanya their Mommy's choices for them. Ten STARS for Mommy! Yeay!!

I hope to send the kain to Kh*ti*ah tomorrow. Kena do'a banyak-banyak kiri-kanan-atas-bawah that she will still terima the kain. Amin. Insya Allah :)

Kak Shana,

Marilah sama jadi Geng Bas Sekolah I, wahaaaaa

My hubs refer jalan TAR as Jalan Puaka ...for obvious reason lah kan, esp bila bab 2 'TERbeli' tu la.

Kak Ezza@makcik Blogger said...

saya suka Jalan Tar...

sebab kaki saya akan otomatik jadi laju dan larat panjat tangga tak kira berapa tingkat kat kedai kedai kain di situ...

Bila lapar, jom masuk insaf...hehehee

Tapi bila balik...baru sedar diri...satu badan sakit..hahaha

Kak Shana,
Omar Ali ada kat Alamanda jugak, kan?

Desert Rose,

Boleh, boleh! Where do I sign up? ;)

Jalan TAR tu memang Jalan Puaka, kan? Tapi kalau ikut teori your hubby lah kan, banyak tau tempat yang berpuaka for me sebenarnya. Kalau kat One-U tu terutamanya, segala polong, hantu raya, toyol, PHSM semua ada kat situ...SANGAT berpuaka...

;)

Kak Ezza,

d.n.a.s,

Yes, Omar Ali ada cawangan kat Alamanda, but I think we still prefer to go to Wisma Yakin coz' the taukey, Abang Man, is based there.

Sekian :)

Shana,
Gone were the days when I dreaded going to Jln TAR. La ni bila sekali sekala balik baru tinjau2 kawasan itu...itu pun naik scooter dgn hubby.
Masa I duduk Sudan I tempah baju kat Dubai bila transit, there's one tailor there yg bole siap 2 hari je...hehe! And mind you, rega nya berpatutan lebih kurang rega kat M'sia. Bole jahit baju lelaki n perempuan...This time tak balik M'sia so pakai je la baju lama2..
My hubby kata orang kat sini x pernah tengok lg baju2 lama I yg umur masing2 dah 4,5 tahun tu tp still in good condition. Hehehe!X pa nx year balas dendam!
I pun same dilema, my hubby senang je nk lose weight, I ni maintain je that undesirable weight...makan sikit dr dia...camna ni?

Hi Shana,

Wah..looks like someone has done her raya shopping already. I haven't started mine yet. For Alya, I dah tempah her 2 sets of baju kurung because she is like Hilman - could not fit in ready made ones. I'm so glad that is over and done with. Kasut pun dah beli when we were on holiday. Kat Malaysia I boleh menangis nak cari shoes that fit her feet. So I'm thankful that the ordeal is over. Haris doesn't want a new pair of baju Melayu, so my work is also done there. And me...well I've got lots of baju kurungs and kebaya that I had left behind in Malaysia, when we went to Dhaka. So I'm just going to re-use them. Save sikit duit!

Kak Yati,

I guess your hubby has a point there - kengkawan kat Saudi tak pernah tengok you in the baju lagi, so, it's okay to wear them for raya. Next year balik, make sure balas dendam kaw-kaw punya, okay? :)

Untung you, can still fit in your baju 4-5 years ago. In my case, sorry-no-thank-you ajer lah...especially Baju Kebaya - confirmed tak muat dah. Baju Kurung Asli tu still boleh pakai lagi, itupun cangkuk kain tu kena re-position lah kan... Hehehe!

I heard about Dubai ada tailors yang buat 1-2 days service, and the kain there being nice and reasonably priced.

Re weight issue - nak bulan puasa ni lagi lah I tension, Kak Yati. Last year I managed to lose 3kgs, BUT, he managed to shed 6kgs! Aaaarrrggghhh!!!

Bella,

I tak berani nak gi hantar kain-kain tu sendiri, so, I mintak my MIL to send them to the tailor kelmarin. My MIL ni punya bargaining power memang power, and syukur alhamdulillah Kh*ti*ah accepted them.

But, but, but... whether siap atau tak for raya tu, that's a different matter lah kan? Kena tunggu dan lihat sahaja lah nanti kan? (Insya Allah siap...Amin) :)

Tak per lah pakai baju for wedding your brother for raya - maybe can change the accessories to go with it so that nampak different :) (So, tunggu apa lagi, dear? Gi shopping for your accessories cecepat! ;)) And I hope you'll manage to send your Cik Abang's Baju Melayu to tempah, insya Allah.

Jalan TAR definitely kena tukar nama... Anybody has any ideas? ;)

Hi Gina!!

How are you, dear? Lama sungguh tak dengar khabar berita. I've been hopping by your blog every now and then, nak tunggu you update. How are the kids at the new school? And how are you settling in at the new neighbourhood? Hope everything's okay, and you're keeping well and safe :)

Lucky you - can still fit in your baju lama. I have given up any attempts at trying to slide into my old kebayas...futile effort! Hehehe!

Good to know that you've settled everybody's Baju Raya already. Is MrS coming back for Raya nanti?

Oh Gina, thanks :) You've just reminded me of one thing that I have not done yet - get their kasut raya! Have to do it soon. Dah puasa nanti malas nak berasak-asak kat the malls.

Take care :)

Oh..Jalan TAR memang klasik...kak Ezza has put it aptly - kaki automatic jadi laju and tak sakit siiiikit pun!;-)

I agree - please do doa banyak2 kiri kanan atas bawah that your tailor will still accept your baju!! Ramai dah tak ambik, kan? Tapi I believe dgn aura Puan Wanshana yang special ituh, suuuuuure tailor cair punya!!!

wanshana said...

MsHart,

Hehehe! Aura Puan Wanshana tak laku lah...Terpaksa menggunakan aura Mak Mertua Puan Wanshana yang lagi powderful :)

Bila nak naik KL ronda-ronda Jalan TAR pre-Raya?

Shana,
Mmg geram kan bila kita ni susah payah nak lose weight, our hubby buat sikit exercise and voila! Senang je...Bila tengok dia makan double our portion...yeessh!

You're right. Kt Dubai lg banyak choice n reasonably priced in fact kadang2 if you buy the more expensive materials like silk, dia orang bagi kain lining for free...bestkan. Just FYI nama kedai dia Phulwani Trading kat area Naif Road. Ramai MAS stewardesses shopping kat situ.

re:H1N1 face masks. i believe, at most, it has a placebo effect only, for those of low risk. and it'll probably bring lots of $$$ to the sellers/companies that make them.

the CDC has some data on it, and no hard data exists to say it works: http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/masks.htm
