It's 1:54a.m, and I'm finding it hard to sleep.
Even the cool air of the aircond is not helping.
I have a full day today. I have classes from 9:00a.m until 12:00pm, 2:00pm until 3:00p.m and 4:00p.m until 5:00p.m. I desperately need to sleep, unless I don't mind my students seeing me sleeping in class today!
And as always, when I can't sleep, the deafening silence of the night would make me reflect and remember the things I've done or said, and the things others have done and said which have been there at the back of my mind, waiting for a night like this to knock on my head again.
And tonight, I remembered a conversation I had with Hilman last week.
We were on our way home to SD and I was driving along the normal route we would take from the school, and as we were approaching the flyover besides the Bukit Kiara Cemetary, Hilman asked me,
Hilman : Mommy, when is dusk and dawn? What's the difference?
(Can't blame him - I think I got confused between those two, too, when I was his age :))
Me : Dawn is when the sun rises, and dusk is when the sun sets. Solat subuh masa dawn, and solat Maghrib masa dusk.
Hilman : Ohhhh, okay? What is your favourite time of the day, Mommy?
Me : Hmmmm, I don't know. I don't have any favourite times. They're all the same kot? But, I love it when it rains, and then it stops, and the sun comes out again - especially in the late afternoon. It feels so fresh and nice. Why do you ask?
Hilman : Errrrr, nothing.
He was silent for about 10 seconds, and then he said -
Hilman : My favourite time is dusk, Mommy - because that's when you can see all the beautiful clouds in the sky...
I looked at him and I saw him staring at the vermillion sky in front of us - his eyes fixed on the clouds above the skyline.
And just then, it dawned on me just how long it had been since the last time I sat down, and appreciated, and I mean REALLY APPRECIATED the fact that I had woken up at the dawn of a new day, and had been given the chance to live through that day to see the sun sets at dusk, EVERYDAY for every single day of my life until now. And not just appreciating the colours they bring with them. But,even more so, to have been given the chance to share those days with those who matter most in my life.
Thank You, ALLAH, for giving life to me, and to my loved ones...
Thank you, ALLAH, for still giving us our dawns and our dusks...to live another new day, every day...

My dua sen on "When there's a third party in the equation"...
I was so flabbergasted when I read about the nikah between the two celebrities who all this while had maintained that their relationship was just a platonic one. Platonic my *&%$!
My heart goes out to his ex-wife. And his kids.
Fine, people may come to me and say we should not be judgmental against any of the parties because we don't really know what went on during their marriage, and that we don't really know who was at fault, and maybe, the marriage was already on the rocks when the third party came into the picture.
Fine. I don't really know these two celebrities personally, and I don't know his ex-wife. And I for sure didn't, and still don't know what went on in their marriage.
And fine. Ini soal jodoh.
So, I'm not going to throw accusations or be judgmental against these two celebrities. But, what I'm going to write is just how I feel about situations when there's a third party in a relationship.
And this is meant not just for the hubbies out there, but also the wifeys, okay? And also peringatan untuk diri I sendiri, and also for Ayah, insya Allah.
All marriages would have its ups and downs. We can't deny that. More often than not, a marriage would start being on the rocks WHEN there's a third party. But, if there's no third party in the picture, both husband and wife would, more often than not, try their utmost best to deal with the situation and resolve the crisis. This is especially so when there are kids involved. They would be more focused on addressing whatever issues which may have caused the rift between them because there's no third party to distract them from the effort. Nothing to distract the wife, nor the husband. So, both would, insya Allah, try their best to save the marriage. But, when there's a third party in the equation, the third party would more often than not, take that focus away. And the third party would always seem to be offering a better deal than your own spouse. More exciting. A novelty. Konon.
And the third party would always seem to be a good excuse for the husband or the wife to throw the towel in and call it quits, because he or she would be thinking, "Heck...If this marriage were to end, it's okay because I already have someone who's willing to start a new life with me and be my wife or husband. The divorce won't be that painful. And life would just continue as it is, albeit I'll be going through it with a different person". And because of that the sanctity of the marriage institution would just dissipate into thin air.
You selfish git. Yes, the divorce won't be painful for you, but what about your spouse who had been through thick and thin with you, and what about your kids?! *^%#$!
And I feel all of these could be avoided if both husband and wife are loyal and sincere and are open to each other. This is ESPECIALLY important when they know or they feel that there are girls or guys out there who are trying to hit on them. Jangan gatal nak layan or nak try to gauge how laku you are still in the market. This, I feel is the main reason why husbands and wives start to go astray. Sebab macam excited giler when somebody else (besides the wife or hubby) finds him/her attractive or desirable.
I believe that if you know or if you feel a girl or a guy is trying to make a move on you, you should tell it straight to his or her face that you're married. Tak payah selindung-selindung. You don't owe him/her anything. But, you do owe your spouse your loyalty.
BUT, MORE IMPORTANTLY, I BELIEVE YOU SHOULD SHARE THIS WITH YOUR SPOUSE. You should tell your spouse about the particular girl or guy, and you should always update your spouse on whatever attempts the guy or the girl is making to get you. Don't wait. And jangan nak syok sendiri and rasa thrilled macam beruk when somebody shows interests in you. Your love to your spouse mesti teguh. Dan yang lebih penting, Imaan kena teguh. You should share all these things with your spouse. MESTI. WAJIB.
Once your spouse is in the know about your pursuer, this will ensure that you stay anchored to the marriage. And trust me, your spouse who before that may take you for granted, will also start paying more attention to you because they then realize that they have a prized possession in you. They have a competition. And they don't want to lose, do they?
In sum -
(1) Jangan layan lebih-lebih mereka-mereka yang menggedik dan menggatal nak tackle you.
(2) Make it clear to them and SHOW them that you're VERY married. Flaunt your spouse in front of them.
(3) Make sure you tell your spouse about the third party who's trying to get you.
(4) UPDATE your spouse regularly on the pursuer's pursuits on you.
(5) Better still, introduce your spouse to the pursuer.
(6) And if your spouse is the one who's being pursued, make a point to get your spouse to bring you to see his/her pursuer. Sit down with him/her, and tell him/her straight to his/her face not to waste his/her time on your spouse.
I think this is VERY important because the pursuer normally would think that the spouse of his/her desired catch does not know about the whole thing and that's why they all makin daring to try whatever it may take to get that person. But, if he/she knows the spouse tahu about what he or she is trying to do, this may menyedarkan diri dia that it's a futile effort to carry on. Lu pikir la sendiri...
(7) DON'T be the third party.
(8) DON'T encourage the third party.
BUT, of course all of this will only work if BOTH husband and wife are loyal, sincere and open with each other from the start. It's important that you tell your spouse straight away when a third party is trying to tackle you. VERY IMPORTANT.
AND HEY, EVEN IF THE OTHER PARTY WANTS TO BE JUST CASUAL FRIENDS, YOU HAVE TO TELL YOUR OTHER HALF. VERY IMPORTANT, TOO!
You'll never know where this "casual friendship" may end up, kan? Tak kira bila and siapa, if a member of the opposite sex nak kawan dengan kita, even if they are sincere, you have to let your spouse know. Berdosa kalau tak bagitau. Kena mintak izin.
Again, all the above is also as peringatan for myself and Ayah, too. I pray and hope that all these dijauhkan. And I pray and hope that both Ayah and I will continue to be open with each other, insya Allah. Amin.
And last but, not least, I'm a strong believer of the notion, "What goes around, comes around".
If today kita menggedik and menggatal nak tackle laki or bini orang, one fine day, ada orang yang akan tackle laki and bini kita...Baru kita rasa...
If today kita menyakitkan and melukakan hati isteri atau suami kita by abandoning him or her to be with a new person, one fine day that new love will also do the same to us.
If today kita merampas hak orang, one fine day, hak kita juga akan dirampas.
If we hold on to that, insya Allah, we will not hurt others, and we will not be hurt by others. Amin.
Again, ini adalah untuk renungan bersama for all the husbands AND wives out there, ya...

Another new year, another year less...
On this New Year's eve, in saying farewell to 2008, and hello to 2009, I have a lot to be thankful for.
Syukur alhamdulillah, 2008 has been a good year for me, Ayah, the kids and our loved ones, and we make do'a that 2009 will bring with it more love, joy, rezqi, wisdom, success, and more importantly - good health for us to enjoy all that Allah SWT has bestowed upon us, insya Allah. And we make do'a that we'll be able to give more to others, too, insya Allah.
I have made so many new friends in the last one year through this humble blog of mine, and I have also found some long-lost friends, too. And for that, I am so grateful.
So, on this eve of 2009, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you abundance of good things in life, love, joy, laughters, wisdom, success, health and semoga dipanjangkan umur dan dimurahkan rezqi, insya Allah.
And as we leave 2008, I would like to leave all of you with this little conversation that I had with Hasya and Hilman today, and something for all of us to ponder upon -
Hilman : Mommy, why do cats eat mice?
Me : Hmmmm, I dunno. I've never thought about it, Hilman. Why do you ask?
Hilman : I dunno, I'm just curious.
Me : I guess, it's like, why do WE eat chicken, vegetables, and fish, etc.? Because we just do? Hmmmm, I really don't have any other explanation to that, Hilman.
Hasya : Errr, Mommy, do you think, MAYBE it's because mice taste like fish? MAYBE?
Me : ???!
(You don't know where this is going, do you? And I am not making any sense here, am I? Oh well, what the heck? Hehehe...))
Guys, what I'm trying to convey here is that - this new year, whenever you cannot find any answers to any questions, or when it feels like you're walking straight onto a solid wall, or when you're stuck with stuff, and when you feel nobody could help you explain the things that need explanation, and ALL THAT are pulling you down, be it at work, or otherwise, just spend MORE time with the kids.
They might provide you with the answers that you're looking for. Be it logical, or illogical ones.
But,hey, even if their answers are illogical, they will surely bring smiles to our lives throughout the new year, non? :)
And just think. Another new year would mean that we have one less year to spend with our kids, with our loved ones. Just think about it.
Just try to spend more time with your loved ones this New Year :)
And I'm sure, 2009 will be one of the best years in your life, insya Allah :)
HAPPY NEW YEAR, Y'ALL...
Wassalam.

Syawal empty nests...

I was reading Brother Id's latest entry in his blog just now, and suddenly I felt a lump in my throat. Planning for their Raya Open House, Brother Id and his lovely wife, K.LiL thought of three of their children who would not be celebrating Raya with him and his family in Dubai this year. I really feel for them. And it struck me there and then - how would I cope later in life when it would be my turn to not have all of my children with me under one roof to celebrate Raya?
One day Hanna, Hasya and Hilman will be leaving the nest. One day they will have their very own nests with their own little chickadees. One day they will also have their in-laws' nests to go back to. And one day there will come a time, when ALL three of them might not be able to be home with Ayah and I to celebrate Raya...
But, I guess - wherever they may be, as long as they feel and ALWAYS know that they have our home to come back to anytime they feel like it - no matter what hour of the day or night it is, all year round, no matter if it is Raya or not, it's okay.
As long as they love and respect their spouses and their families like they love and respect me and Ayah, and are willing to spend time away from our family to be with the spouses' family - just as we would wish for their spouses to ALWAYS love and respect us the same way, and willing to do the same, it's okay.
As long as being away from us would mean that they would have a healthy, tolerant and happy relationship with their spouses, it's okay.
As long as they ALWAYS be Mommy and Ayah's Chinchin, Chimin and Chiman - even when they are way over 40 (Yikes!!!), it's okay.
And more importantly - as long as their thoughts, their hearts, and their doas are ALWAYS with me and Ayah all year round, Raya or not, it's okay.
I pray to Allah swt to give my children the strength and wisdom to do and accept what is right when the time comes.
And I pray to Allah swt to give me the strength and wisdom to do and accept what is right when the time comes.
And to all parents out there who are pining for your children this Syawal, wherever you are, wherever your children may be, I pray for your strength and wisdom to be happy....just be happy. Syukur Alhamdulillah for the wonderful and beautiful family that you have, even if you're not physically together...
Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri. Maaf Zahir Batin. God Bless.

Of plastic beakers and Curry Maggi...
Thoughts recorded on March 06, 2007...
I was just having a drink of water which I poured out of the plastic beaker in my room this afternoon, when I noticed that the water actually had the smell and an after taste of Curry Maggi (?!). And I said to myself - "Hmmmmm...how did that come about?!"
Then I remembered - it was at 3:00a.m two nights ago, when I was working on my chapters, when I felt so hungry suddenly, but I was just too scared to go out of my room to go to the kitchen to cook a proper meal. The only thing I had in my room were some Curry Maggi, my kettle, and my plastic beaker. Hmmmm....no choice, but to soak the Maggi in boiling water, in my plastic beaker. (Neither did I have any spoon with me! So...you guessed it right - I was slurping the Maggi straight from the beaker!!!) Eeeeeewwwww!LOL!!!
(Hanna, Hasya, Hilman - ONLY do this in dire emergencies, okay?!!!)
Anyway, I thought I had washed the beaker properly the first time around, by putting a triple dose of dishwashing liquid to it. I even soaked it in hot water for half an hour before rinsing it, and filling it with drinking water again. I guessed that was not enough...
So, what I did this afternoon was I soaked the plastic beaker in hot water with another triple dose of washing liquid, a few drops of my Woman Davidoff Cool Water, a few drops of my shampoo, a few drops of my handwashing liquid, and some washing detergent -(You guys must be thinking - crazy woman...) Anyway, crazy as it may seem - it actually worked! And, at this very moment, I am enjoying a mug of plain water, minus the smell and the after-taste of Curry Maggi! Well, there's probably still a litle bit of smell there BUT the water tastes so much better now...(I will probably soak the plastic beaker with my shower gel tomorrow, because that was the only thing that did not get its way into the pot pourri of stuff this afternoon...)
What I'm trying to say is - (in case you are thinking to yourself right at this moment - "Hmmmm, I think this woman has lost her marbles...) - The plastic beaker is just like your life, AND the Curry Maggi is just like the bad experiences that you may have had in the past - be it lost love, failures, betrayal of trust... I don't know.. Bad experiences that you felt like it was the end of the world for you?
Well, guess what? It was NOT the end of the world, because if it was, I would not be writing this, and YOU would not be reading this...
What I'm really trying to say is - Life has to go on...
It does not matter if the Curry Maggi was taken voluntarily OR somebody forced you to take it in your plastic beaker. What's important is - how do you make sure that the smell and the after-taste of the Curry Maggi disappear...
You can just leave the beaker unwashed. You can just use a single dose of your dishwashing liquid. OR, just like how I washed my plastic beaker - you put some extra efforts, and some fragrances that you could find to it, and Insya Allah, the smell will go away...It may still linger, BUT, in time it will definitely go away...
It's YOUR choice...At the end of the day, YOU are the one who is going to drink the water from YOUR plastic beaker...
So, to those who are having Curry Maggi in a plastic beaker tonight - whether voluntarily or by force, wherever you are....just be sure to wash the plastic beaker straight away. And just put some extra efforts and some extra fragrances to it, while you are at it...
All the best, guys...
Wassalam....
