Hasya is 9...

Once upon a time,
you were but
a tiny flicker
of love,
of light,
of hope.

And now...
...just look how you shine!

(* Poem from Hallmark *)

HAPPY 9th BIRTHDAY, DARLING HASYA!!!

It's Hasya birthday today, but, we didn't throw any party or anything as Hasya had requested for a sleep-over for her friends this weekend. She has invited 3 of her close friends to come over, and yours truly is cracking her head to think of things on how to entertain them.

We've had Hanna's friends over a few times before - and girls that age are much easier to handle. You just let them be, and they know just how to have fun. But, 9 year olds....Hmmmm, it's a bit tricky.

Hasya has made a list of things to do this weekend - among which include :

- Dinner at Sec*et R**ip*
- Watching DVDs
- Playing PS2
- Mommy and Ayah bringing everybody for a movie

My list pulak, include :

- What to cook for breakfast,
- What to cook for lunch,
- What to cook for tea
- What to cook for dinner, and
- What to cook for supper

while Hasya's friends are here?!

Anyway, I'll be posting an update on the celebration this weekend, okay? Hopefully it will not be as low profile as our mini celebration of her birthday at her Wan's house tonight whereby, I cooked my special chicken rice, my SIL bought a cake, and I got some putu piring from the Pasar Malam.

9 candles were blown, and special wishes and do'a were made by Hasya...

Semoga dipanjangkan umur, dimurahkan rezqi, dikurniakan kejayaan dalam hidup, diberikan akhlak dan budi pekerti mulia dan menjadi anak yang solehah. Amin.

Happy Birthday, dearest... Here's wishing you many happy returns of the day, Amin.

Lots of Love...and Hugs and Kisses,

Mommy, Ayah, K.Long Cinchin and Chiman

No need to crack your head over what to cook for the kids.

B/fast ~ beli nasi lemak or roti canai

Lunch ~ they'll be still kenyang from breakfast meal; so you can skip that.

Tea ~ beli kuih or donuts

Dinner ~ If you feel like cooking, spaggheti bolognaise or macaroni & cheese. If not, eat out.

Kids that age tak kisah sangat about food. They just want to have fun...

MrsNordin,

Yep - I think I'll take up on your suggestions, but I still need to at least cook two - three meals for them. Takut nanti when the parents ask the girls what Aunty Shana served them over the weekend - semua tapau stuff! Hehehe...

I don't mind cooking actually, just that to come up with the menu yang pening tu!

choc chips cookies, baked rice and some pudding ...

Happy Belated Bday to your daughter..

wanshana said...

Zaitgha,

Thanks for the bday wish and also for the menu suggestion :)

The problems are (and they are BIG problems...Hehehe!) -

(i) I don't know how to make any of those dishes;

(ii) I don't bake;

(iii) I don't have an oven at home!

Correction - I have a microwave oven which I only use to defrost and reheat stuff! And even if I suddenly decide to try baking in it, I think I've lost the Manual for me to refer to ;(

I guess I can make some steamed caramel pudding - it's always a hit with kids, kan?

Wish me luck, and thanks again :)

Dear WS

Give my Birthday wishes to Hasya - wishing a happy 9th Birthday. Well she is at the same age as my AF2...

Thats the beauty of being a father, let everyone decide what to to eat and where.. and my task is to drive everyone there or drive out to get the things, cakes etc... Usually the mom will plan all these details...

BR

wanshana said...

Fifi,

Hasya read all the comments and birthday wishes tonight and she laughed out loud when she came to the part when Bandit said "meow" :) Hehehe!

Thanks.

Do convey our salam to Abar, our warmest hugs to Adam and Farah, and not forgetting a gentle stroke on Bandit's tummy :)

Take care, dear.

wanshana said...

Dear afsi,

Hasya said thanks. She read all the comments, and she asked why do you call your daughter AF2? :)

I told her, it could be that all your kids have the same initials "AF", so to make referencing easier, it's AF1, AF2 and AF3...(Betul ke?). My kids will thus be HS1, HS2 and HS3 :)

I know - all the Mommies yang jadi event organizers when it comes to parties, etc. And all the Ayahs jadi the "Runners"...

(But, frankly speaking, most of the time I am BOTH! ;))

Shana, I rasa BJ´s idea is very good... kids just want to have fun!! Food yang tak sedap pun boleh jadi sedap.. he.he.he...

Btw, hope they won´t make your house macam ´kapal karam´ dah le.. he.he....

Hi Wanshana, a happy belated birthday greetings to your Hasya. Nice name.
May she grow up to be just like her lovely mother with a heart of 22 carat gold.
Stay easy and have a nice day, Wanshana, Lee.

afsi said...

Dear WS

you are right. All three have the initials AF, thus AF1, AF2 & AF3...

wanshana said...

Kmar,

I would feel somewhat guilty if I don't go overboard cooking for the kids actually.

Friends and family can vouch for this - I used to invite family and friends for birthdays and raya do, etc., whereby I would cook almost everything on the table (for 50-70 people, mind you!) - mee rebus, spaghetti olio, kuey teow goreng, And of course frying those frozen curry puffs, hotdogs and nuggets, segala. (Sate has always been specially ordered from Sate Samuri, though. Mana lah larat nak mengipas segala...)

But, gone are the days...I dah tua la, Kmar. Dah tak ader "kedeghat" (bak kata oghang Peghak...) - sampaikan nak masak untuk half a dozen kids pun dah jadi satu masalah besar now ni...Hehehe!Anyway, I will see what I can do nanti.

Take care, dear.

Dear Uncle Lee,

Thank you :)

"Hasya" means "Perfection" (and another meaning would be "Peaceful" or "Serene", by the way). Her second name is "Sofea" which means "Pure".

I will let her read your birthday wish for her herself tonight.

You have a nice day, too, Uncle Lee.

Take care.

wanshana said...

afsi,

I guessed as much! :)

I think that was the trend masa zaman-zaman kita dapat babies dulu - using the same initials for all our kids, preferably a combination of the parents' initials.

You sure they don't stand for "Akademi Fantasia" Musim 1, 2 dan 3, eh? (Hehehe! Just joking ;)

Happy Belated Bday Hasya...

So Shana, dah finalised the menu for the weekend ke belum??

Maybe you can get the girls to help you with the cooking. Mesti seronok they all..... boleh sepahkan dapur.

Shana,
Happy Birthday to Hasya.
Hmm, what to cook yer? Stressful decision lar nih... let me get Azian.. kot kot dia ada suggestion

Have fun this weekend!!!

wanshana said...

Eta,

Thanks. I will let her read your bday wish later.

You still have that recipe? FYI, the same recipe can also be used for the steamed version - which is what I'm going to make this weekend disebabkan ketiadaan conventional oven at home :)

And if you want to know, Reha pulak still uses my BBQ marinate recipe until now - 20 tahun punya recipe tau!! Hehehe!

Masak "wholesale" ni, dulu alright la, Eta...Sekarang dah surrender. Kalau makan Nutrilite Daily or Ginkgo Biloba and Siberian Ginseng pun dah tak jalan. Errr...Kacip Fatimah tu lain function dia, Eta! Hahaha!

I guess I can masuk office slightly late on Monday. All lectures and tutorials dah selesai, and it's revision week next week anyway.

Take care.

Mamamia,

Thanks :)

Yes - more or less decided, and thank you for your suggestion. I think, I will get the girls to help me with Sunday breakfast - Pancakes and Maple Syrup. YUMMY!!! (But, ngelat sikit lah coz' I'll be using Pilsbury's Pancake Mix for that. Hehehe!) On top of that, we will also make Cheese Omellette with Mushrooms and Diced Tomatoes.

The girls will only be following me back from school after their Sports Day on Saturday.

So, the menu is as follows - (Drumroll, please!)

SATURDAY

Lunch : Rice with Ayam Masak Halia,
+ Sweet and Sour Bawal + Telur Mata Sapi + Veges

Tea : Tapau Keropok Lekor + Pisang
Goreng

Dinner : Se*r*t Re**pe (before Movie)

SUNDAY

Breakfast : Pancakes + Maple Syrup + Cheese Omellette

Lunch : Spaghetti Bolognaise

Tea : Nuggets + Sausage cocktails + Caramel Pudding

By Dinner time, all the girls would have been sent home already. Phew! ;)

Wish me luck!

Shana,
Masak! jangan tak masak.Tips untuk u...masak je apa yang bebudak suka dan jangan masak sedap sangat nanti tak cukup pulak!
Take Care!

wanshana said...

Mior,

Thanks :)

Ha-ah. Memang stressful - I think I dah tambah uban the last couple of days ni memikirkan the abovesaid menu. Hahaha!

I'm sure Azian would not have any problems coming up with all sorts of cool menus for the kids. She - blind-folded also can cook maaa!!

Fun this weekend?! Errrr... I will try my best (in between bersilat kat dapur tu...) Hehehe!

Anyway, yang penting - I hope Hasya will have a memorable and fun sleep-over this weekend, insya Allah.

(Lepas tu I MC 2 hari...)

wanshana said...

Azian,

Thanks :)

If only I had an oven at home (AND if only I can cook half as well as you can), I would surely curi-curi your recipes in your blog for this weekend.

"Jangan masak sedap sangat, nanti tak cukup pulak"? Errr..I don't think I can masak "Sedap sangat" even if I try...Hahaha!

Yep - I will just cook what kids normally love to eat. So, hopefully, my menu kat atas tu, will satisfy all those hungry girls' appetite, insya Allah.

I think HILMAN will be looking forward to the wekend MORE than Hasya if he sees the menu. He just LOVES to eat. Hehehe!

You take care, too.

Aiz,

Thanks. Amin.

Yep - dah besar Hasya :)

But, it seems like only yesterday when my gynae (Dr. Teow) and Ayah were outside the delivery room trying to decide who between them should sambut Hasya into the world 9 years ago...

I could hear them joking and laughing outside the delivery room saying to each other, "You do it laaa...", "No, YOU do it laaa..., etc."

....and there I was crying out to them, "She's coming out now!! She's coming out NOW!!!! I don't care WHO does it. Can somebody just come here NOW!!! And I mean NNNNOOOOOWWWW!!!

Barely 1 minute later, Hasya was out!

ALL the pain? Gone when I saw her :)

Yep - seems like it was just yesterday.

Dear Motley,

Hasya's birthday card arrived on 080408 itself actually :) Sorry for not SMSing to let you know. Thanks so much!

No wonder sepi seribu bahasa... So, how was(is?) your South West trip? It's Easter break now, in'nit? Is this the first time you guys turun to Hilmi's place? Knowing you, I'm sure you'll be busy making his place cozy and homely while you're there ;)

Make sure post pix of your trip in your blog nanti, okay?

Missing you guys, too.

Take care, and salam to all :)

ok i missed the bus as always but never too late to wish hasya a Belated befday.

Happy Birthday, sweet Hasya!

now for the mommy.

lets see...

i think for kids of Hasya's age, turning on Disney's High School Musical is mandatory. they'd go gaga over whathisname Efron dude.

when it comes to food, rice-based meal is a definite no-no!

come on, just for this weekend, spoil them. desserts round the clock!

wanshana said...

Kerp,

Thanks. It's never too late to wish anybody good things in life, betul tak? :)

Hmmmm...I dunno about High School Musical with this bunch of girls, though. I think they're more into BRATZ stuff. And Hasya has quite a collection of BRATZ DVDs and PS2 games to keep them occupied, I think.

No rice?!! I'm fine with that - lagi senang kerja. BUT, kena jugak la kot bagi anak orang makan nasi (at least once kot?) over the weekend... Nanti serik mak bapak dioghang nak bagi sleepover again... Hehehe!

Malam ni nak pegi TESCO - memborong food to stock-up the fridge, freezer and the pantry...

Anonymous said...

salam kak shana,

awww ... so happy it arrived on time!!! no worries pasal tak sms, as long as hasya dapat :)

yes, easter break now and am glad i booked it early ... the kids (and me) really need it ... before ni dah datang but tak lama ... so now at least can really venture out :)

heheheh ... yeah ... been doing bits and pieces here and there :) hilmi dah warn awal awal ... 'NO CUSHIONS!!!' hehehe ...

insyaALLAH will post some pix ... so tunggguuuuu :)

Btw, dah besar anak kita ya... :)
