Mee Rebus & another birthday do...

Hmmmm...what else but a posting on makan-makan AGAIN. Hehehe!

After more than 6 months of hinting to yours truly, Ibu finally got her Mee Rebus last night. Hehehe! Sorry, kawan, for having to wait so long :) Gua manyak busy maaa...

Anyway, we had a berbuka do at our place last night, and the main menu was my Mee Rebus.

But for those who have to eat rice for berbuka, we also had Nasi Briayani, courtesy of J* and Iz*am (who also brought some Tauhu Sumbat with them.

Yours truly also prepared some Nasi Putih to accompany the Ayam Percik Kelantan - prepared by Re*a and Ta*s (Errrr....more of the latter actually. Hehehe!) who also brought with them satu GUNI keropok yang sangatlah sedap!

For desserts, I prepared Custard Pudding, while Ibu and Sa*a brought those yummylicious Big Apple Donuts.

There were also some popiah basah which Ayah got from the SD Bazar Ramadhan - one of the better popiah basah around.

I also asked Dar to fry some Ay*mas Hot & Spicy Chicken, and for the kids who could not take spicy dishes, I also made some Kuey Teow Soup for them.

For drinks - we had Sirap Bandung Soda and some Teh Tarik.

Ab*d and On*ir and their cos came slightly later as they had their proper berbuka somewhere else first. Kengkawan lain - Yu*, Et* and Aw*n could not make it as they had prior engagements somewhere else :(

We also had another birthday do for Hilman. The other day it was at Mak's and he was surrounded by girls. This time around he had a REAL fun party because there were boys, boys and more boys around!

The highlight of the night was of course Hilman's birthday thingy, but us Mommies (and Daddies) had our own highlight in the form of reminiscing the Mommies' culinary (or lack of it!!) skills. Hehehe... We even came up with our own Charta and ranking (results of which shall remain within the group sahaja, okay?! Hahaha!)

Later, we (or rather - the hubbies) had a field day gelakkan the wifeys when we went through my album of old photos from zaman sekolah dulu . Masa zaman jahiliah. Even the kids gelakkan mak-mak they all yang posing maut. Cissss...

The last of the guests left just after 1:00a.m - adjourning to Na*i Ka*dar Se*ap for their sahur. Ayah and I didn't join as Ayah was supposed to drive up to Ipoh this morning for a meeting, and he needed his sleep so that he would be fresh.

But, as I'm typing this (and it's 12:23p.m!), he's still sleeping beside me, as he's not feeling that well.

Too much Mee Rebus last night kot?! :)

And as I'm typing this, too, the rest of the MT are (on their way to?) at KLCC for a ladies day out/shopping tak ingat laki... Hahaha!

Anyway, enjoy the pics!

Madam Tai Tai,

Sorry...Hehehe!

Yes, it was good to meet up with friends for berbuka.

Hmmmm...tak tau lah whether berborak lebih banyak dari makan. Sama naik kot?!!! Hahaha!

wanshana said...

Jabishah,

Thanks :)

Ha-ah, this time tak der Char Keuy Teow :)

I enjoy having guests over for makan-makan, but have not been able to do so for quite some time now. So, it was a nice feeling to entertain friends this Ramadhan. Two weeks ago, I got to entertain my side of the family.

Penat, but I don't mind at all :)

Motley!!!

Hello there! How are you and co?!

I think I commented in one of my earlier postings (on Hilman's birthday kot?) that he had received the cool card. Anyway, thanks again. He just loved it!

The cake is Chocolate Banana Toffee (from Se*re* Re*ip*). Memang sedaaaaappp!!!

Hanna cut her hair 3 weeks ago. She can't wait for it to grow back. She's kinda regretting it. But, I think she looks nice. (But, try telling that to a 12-year old girl who has a mind of her own?!)

By the way, when are your parents going to join you guys for Raya?

Take care, dear.

Shana,

I think kalau Pak Wahid yg jual Mee Rebus fofular kat Plaza Angsana JB tu dapat tau pasal YOUR Mee rebus... oohhhhh....sure tension dia!!!

We all yg makan aritu pun tension jugak - tension sbb tak boleh nak berenti, asyik tambah jer. Hahahaha.... And I lost count of how many glasses of teh tarik I minum. Hmmm....syiok, syiok, syiok...

And memang nostalgic betul browsing the 'old' photos. Didn't realise Haizal was so 'slim' then. Ekekekeke.... Tapi paling best gambar 3 samseng dgn Ujang tuh! Pergghhhh... power!! LOL!!!

Thank you so much for having us, Shana! We enjoyed ourselves very much, too much in fact - sampai terlupa nak balik rumah?!! LOL!!

Daun keladi ek?

p/s Penyimpan mohor besar rajoo-rajoo dah decided: You kat tangga atas sekali bab masak memasak ni. And .....jeng!jeng! jeng! And I am not the last!!!! Yipeeee....

Ibu! Hahahaha... :D

Now you know why I was so slim then (before kahwin) and macam ikan paus (as my children would put it) now!

;p

Hi Wanshana....alamak, seeing your mee rebus betul buat saya nak makan. Looking at your delicious mee rebus, I think tiga pingan boleh habis, ha ha.
Wanshana, you are a fantastic cook!
Happy cooking, lee.

Hi Ja @ DDI,

Hehehe...Sorry to give you dugaan di bulan puasa, sampai nak kena jilat jari kaki?! Hahaha! Hope you managed to get your Mee Rebus last night.

Nak buat sendiri Mee Rebus ni, memang remeh sikit coz' banyak benar condiments segala. Kuah dia pun a bit tedious. But, it's worth it, bila tengok people enjoying it :)

wanshana said...

Waterlily,

My prep tak boleh lawan lah your prep for your do hari tu. You started cooking after sahur, while I only started cooking about 12:00p.m.

But, I went to the market and then to Te*co in the morning to get the ingredients, etc. So, more of penat getting the groceries, too.

Insya Allah, I'll post an entry on the recipe one of theses days :)

wanshana said...

Hi Ize-thesimpleme,

Thanks for hopping by :)

Memang meriah...Selalunya bila dah berkumpul macam ni, food yang tak berapa sedap pun, jadi tersangatlah sedap! Hehehe!

But, alhamdulillah, everybody enjoyed the food malam tu.

Kak Shana,
You must love entertaining kan, soooo syiokk tgk the dishes and the jovial faces. Real friends will remain with us through thick and thin and I have a feeling your friends are those...it warms your heart kan...

wanshana said...

Ibu,

You're most welcome - it was our pleasure to have you guys over, as usual :)

You can give that Pak Wahid my phone number. Tell him, if he wants to JV ngan I, he can call me. Hahaha!

Glad that you guys forgot about all your dieting regime that night :) Itu Teh Tarik could have had more ooommpphh if we had teh Cap Masjid (which unfortunately has been banned(?!). If not, mau satu thermos tu you perabihkan, kot? :)

Gambar 3 Samseng with Ujang tu is one of my favourite photos masa sekolah dulu, and of course gambar "Narnia, The Wardrobe" tuh! Hahaha! Sakit perut anak-anak gelakkan I when they saw the photo for the first time hari tu. Habis I kena kutuk...

Yes, those were the days when not only Haizal was SLIM, but ALL of us were, mate...

Errrr, itu "Charta" can be reviewed annually. Next year we'll see siapa yang naik 5 anak tangga... Hehehe!

wanshana said...

Ayah (or "Fatto Whalo" as our kids would call you...)

You slim or not, makes no difference to me ;)

wanshana said...

Uncle Lee,

Thanks. Hehehe!

Nanti I courier 3 pinggan Mee Rebus to you :)

I'm not a fantastic cook, la Uncle Lee. But, thanks. It's just that there are a few dishes which have become my signature dishes among friends and family :)

Ask me to bake cakes or cookies, or kueh-kueh Melayu, sure the kitchen will catch fire one!

Take care, Uncle Lee.

Bella,

Yes, I do love to entertain friends and families at our place :) I enjoy cooking, especially the main dishes :)

And yes, we're like sisters - our gang ni. We grew up together masa kat boarding school dulu. And the best thing is all our hubbies get along very well with each other, and they don't mind dipaksarela diheret to our gatherings... Hehehe!

MAMAMIA said...

Alahai, bulan puasa ni, banyak betul blogs buat N3s pasal makan2. Siap ada gambar lagi!!! Godaan...

wanshana said...

Mamamia,

Hehehe... So sorry for the godaan...

Insya Allah, akan menguatkan lagi our will power :)

Thanks Shana and Haizal for being such hospitable hosts. After waiting for so long, we finally got to taste your super delicious Mee Rebus. Like ibu said, boleh tension Pak Wahid....

And as usual the kids had a good time while leaving the moms alone to borak-borak, makan-makan and reminiscing about the good old school days.

wanshana said...

Mr Engineer,

The pleasure was all ours :) Nasib baik masa you all sampai Mee Rebus tak habis lagi. Hehehe! (Actually, the next day tu pun still banyak lagi...)

Yes, the kids had fun, the Mommies had fun. And we hope the daddies had fun, too (watching the Livberpool v Stoke (?!) match!)

Kmar said...

Shana,

Jangan lupa turunkan ilmu mee rebus to your daughters... he.he... !!!

Apa sudah jadi pada kuay teow?? Ini yang jadi kes.. dah dapat gading, tanduk dilupakan.. ha.ha.ha..

wanshana said...

Kmar,

Hmmmm...I think Hilman would be more open to terima ilmu mee rebus from me compared to his sisters! Hehehe! But, I will try to perturun ilmu to all three, insya Allah.

The Mee Rebus recipe pun was my Arwah Grandma's. So, if you were to go and have mee rebus at my Mom's or sisters' place - the taste would be exactly the same :)

Char Kuey Teow tidak dilupakan... Just that malam tu, I bagi kuali I rest...Hahaha!

i wonder if Ibu was sported a bee-hive hairdo back then...muahahha...

and that nasi putih part, it would be a life-savious for rice person like me!

Anonymous said...

Kak Shana,
Do u mind sharing ur mee rebus recipe soonest possible. I'm thinking of having mee rebus for Raya this year...penat la nak kena pergi JB baru dpt makan mee rebus.thanks

IBU said...

Kerp,

Bee-hive hair do? Allooooo dek! I'm not THAT ancient ok?

Just the regular hairdo of our time, short straight hair - slightly above shoulder length (no need to waste time combing hair & save cost on shampoo), pakai 'spek' - tomboyish.... hahaha...

And the 3 'samseng' tu ... semua pun cam tu, including WanShana. Maybe can ask if Shana would be willing to post that "groovy" pic. LOL!!!

wanshana said...

Kerp,

Ibu has provided her reply above :)

I tell you - if Ibu sports a beehive hairdo, kalah you nanti, bro (and I'm referring to your posting when you had that awesome wig on...Hehehe!)

You boleh geng ngan Ayah. Melayu jati - wajib makan nasi tetiap hari. Sejemput pun jadi lah.

wanshana said...

Ibu,

Errr...I tak tomboy ler masa sekolah. Bukankah I budak baik, and lebih kurang macam Perempuan Melayu Terakhir?!!

(Kuang kuang kuang.... Hahaha!)

Nanti I akan usahakan gambar samseng tu ;)

wanshana said...

Dear Anonymous @ 11:10a.m,

Insya Allah I'll post the recipe here soon. Watch this space, okay?

But, my Mee Rebus ni is quite different from the Mee Rebus JB in the sense that it's not sweetish, and instead of using ubi keledak to thicken the gravy, I use ubi kentang :)

And I can only give the recipe meant for at least 30 people (yes, when I cook it, it's normally for at leat 30 pax, kalau tak, tak berbaloi nak masak :) But, I suppose I can agak-agak for 6-10 pax, insya Allah.

Lee said...

Hello Wanshana, ada lagi tu mee rebus? Ha ha.
You have a great week and happy cooking, Lee.
